Jun 25, 2017. #1. My engine rebuild is burning oil and it looks like most of it is going through the intercooler. Anyway, it's got me thinking about the pressures in the air intake, rocker box etc. I'm getting a bit of pressure/chuffing out of the oil filler hole. When the engine is running and so pulling air through the air filter and through
Just because the cooling system isn't pressurising doesn't mean the head gasket isn't leaking. There are several ways it can 'blow'. It's quite common for the timing belt to be fitted one tooth out on the 300TDi engine, and I've done it a few times in the past, but it's always noticeable once it's fitted as you have to turn the engine clockwise back to the timing marks and check them.
Discovery 2 300 tdi engine swap. I have a 2000 Disco 2 with the 4.0 v8 engine. Really want to get rid of that engine. A little too thirsty for me. I am considering the 300 tdi engine swap because of the simplicity of the engine. The TD5 is just too much work and it is a bit unstable.

However, the expansion header tank fills to the brim with coolant and the top of the radiator empties. I've bled the system through and replaced the expansion tank.

After checking the turbo, which seems fine, and replacing the manifold gasket which was actually on its way out, the filling continued. The source was traced back to the cyclone unit.

I have covered 78,000miles since I have had my 300tdi with Morris multivis 10w40 semi synthetic regularly changed- engine is very very clean inside. I have worked on a few other 300tdi engines in the last few months and peering in under the rocker cover was like looking into a black hole. Any good quality oil is fine and change it regularly
Run a live feed to the fuel solenoid on the pump. If it fires and runs and seems ok then there is a power feed problem. If that does not work, remove the solenoid, see if it runs then. Other than that, a sensor such as needle lift, crank or maf/map etc won't cause a non start condition, it will cause low power though.
